Medical Marijuana and CBD (Cannabidiol)
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is changing how the world feels about marijuana. With medical marijuana becoming accepted by more and more states, more patients are being allowed to use it.
CBD is being used for a number of diseases including:
- relief from cancer treatment
- eating disorders and
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Many suffers were not getting relief with the myriad of prescription drugs that were being given to them. Only with the use of medical marijuana did many patients find relief.
Cannabis History in US
For years, marijuana was thought of as a bad drug. We have heard the stories of “stoners” and how our parents didn’t want us to turn out like that.
The use of cannabis has been under some type of regulation since the mid-1600s. In the year 1619, Cannabis sativa became regulated. By the time 1906 rolled around, Cannabis had to be labeled as poison.
Marijuana became a drug in every state in the 1930’s.
The very first national regulation happen when the states adopted a new regulation named the Uniformed State Narcotic Drug Act.
In the 1930’s, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics was born.
Also born was the intense scrutiny when it came to cannabis and other well-known recreational drugs.
It was claimed that cannabis (in all forms) caused people to become aggressive and commit violent crimes, become overly sexual and act out of control.
The propaganda was taken so far concerning the use of “Marihuana” that fliers and videos were made.
Even in the 1980’s, using cannabis would get a person mandatory prison stays.
Finally, in the year 1996, medical cannabis was legalized in the State of California and was protected under Proposition 215. The passing of Proposition 215 allowed medical marijuana patients to get relief with the use of cannabis.
Other states were not so quick to follow but slowly states are coming around to the idea after watching the states where marijuana is legal for medical purposes.
What is THC?
THC is the short form of tetrahydrocannabinol and is found in marijuana.
THC is the chemical that when ingested causes the “high” that is sought after by many. This high can cause overall relaxation, nervousness and for some paranoid delusions.
The effect of the THC will vary depending on the individual and strain of the plant it was grown from. For some, the same strain can have different effects at different times of the day.
THC can be smoked or ingested and will produce the high at different rates.
For those who are looking for a quick high, it is best to smoke it. For those who are trying to get the high to last longer, ingesting is the best method.
The amount of time the high lasts depends on the amount of THC that is smoked or ingested.
The thing about smoking or ingesting marijuana is that you really cannot overdose.
If a large amount is smoked or ingested, the user may become tired and sleep the excess off.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a compound of cannabis that has many health benefits. CBD is what has the medical professionals and researchers excited.
The more research that is being performed the more diseases and side effects it is being used to treat. Although not all states have made medical marijuana legal, it is becoming more popular as more states are jumping on board.
Cannabis can be high in CBD and low in THC. The high CBD marijuana has been hard to come by in years past, but is becoming more prevalent now that more growers are growing high CBD strains.
More and more medical marijuana patients want a strain that is high in CBD.
But, it is important to note that THC does have some health benefits too. THC in combination with CBD is used for nausea and pain.
Cancer patients use the combination of THC and CBD for nausea relief caused from chemotherapy.
As one cancer patient puts it, “I never thought I would be using pot in a hospital”.
High CBD strains are regularly used for treatment of:
• make bones stronger,
• stress relief,
• anxiety relief,
• and more.
The most recent of studies has proven that marijuana can help reduce obesity.
Researchers reported, “The enforcement of MMLs (medical marijuana laws) is associated with a 2% to 6% decline in the probability of obesity. … Our estimates suggest that MMLs induce a $58 to $115 per-person annual reduction in obesity-related medical costs.”
If medical marijuana is reducing obesity, imagine the long term health problems that can be avoided like high blood pressure and diabetes.
Unfortunately, the US Federal Government does not see things the same way as the medical community and researchers do.
And, this is where we bring in the CBD Hemp Oil because it is legal and helping many.
What is the Difference between THC and CBD?
Fact: THC is the chemical compound that causes the “high”. CBD does not cause the euphoric feeling.
Fact: Many people use cannabis as a sleep aid or sleep medication.
The THC is the chemical that is believed to be the agent to cause drowsiness.
Studies have proven that the CBD is the chemical compound that produces alertness and wakefulness.
Because CBD has these traits when used, it is not a good choice for those who are looking for a sleep aid.
This explains why different strains of cannabis will cause alertness, while others will make the patient drowsy and induce sleep.
Many medical marijuana users will use different strains at different times of the day. Solution, CBD Hemp Oil where the user can adjust the amount to suit the needs at specific times.
Fact: The legalities of medical marijuana and CBD derivatives:
Only recently has the drug known as Epidiolex been approved by the Federal Drug Administration for testing on children with epilepsy.
Now, here is where many people get confused:
The chemical compound CBD is in hemp, this hemp can be legally sold in the United States.
And this is where we all benefit tremendously!
Since hemp is not FDA regulated and is meant for industrial use it can be freely used as nutritional supplements from hem seeds, like hemp seed oil, hemp flour, hemp protein.
Hemp flowers can be used for hemp tea as well as for extract extremely rich with cannabinoids and mostly with CBD.
On the other hand, you won’t find much THC in hemp! So as far as “getting high”, hemp is not going to do the trick.
How is CBD Oil Made?
There is more than one way to extract the CDB oil from a marijuana plant. The easiest way to produce the results is using the “oil method”.
This is where carrier oil is used for extraction. Most times the oil will be olive oil because of its purity.
Why is this method so popular?
Because the olive oil that is used for the extraction is also full of health benefits and free from impurities. It’s also simple and affordable.
Extracting CBD oil is its purest form is done using CO2.
This method works by pushing CO2 through the plants and keeping the temperatures on the cool side. This is considered the safest and cleanest way to extract CBD oil. The only problem with the CO2 method is that many producers of the oil find it expensive.
The CBD oil that is sold and has been extracted using the CO2 will probably be more expensive.
Any time one is looking to purchase CBD, it is important to know how it was extracted, and how pure it is. CBD oil is growing in demand as people are using the oil as a dietary supplement.
Medical Marijuana or Hemp to Make CBD Oil?
CBD oil can be made from the marijuana plant and the hemp plant. There is a difference between the two, so let’s have a quick rundown.
Marijuana has a higher amount of THC in the plant. The hemp plant has a lower THC level.
Hemp is used for many different things including CDB Oil.
CBD Hemp oil is 100% legal and can be shipped right to your home or business.
There are many health food stores that sell CBD oil also.
So, when an individual purchases CBD hemp oil, it has the higher CBD and very little THC.
CBD hemp oil does not cause the psychotropic effects that are unwanted by the user.
What Does CBD Oil Do?
CBD oil is able to help those with a variety of ailments including:
In this documentary the patient is a young girl named Charlotte Figi. Charlotte is 5 years old and suffered continuous seizures.
With medications not working, the family knew they had to try an alternative treatment. While doing research, Charlotte’s father ran across information about CBD research and the benefits.
Having no other option to turn to, the Figi’s began searching for a grower that had plants high in CBD.
Finding cannabis with a high CBD level and low THC level was not easy.
After having searched for a rather long time, the Figi’s found the marijuana strain that they needed. The owners of the growing plants were very leery to allow it to be used on a child.
The CBD worked for Charlotte and the strain of plant was named Charlotte’s Web.
CBD oil is now used to help many children and adults with epilepsy.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta also follows other patients who are using medical marijuana and even he was surprised at the way CBD was helping the sufferers.
At the beginning of the documentary, Dr. Gupta admits that he too had been brainwashed to believe that marijuana was a bad thing.
This documentary has opened the eyes of many in the general public and medical field to the benefits of medical marijuana and CBD.
So When Will All States Allow Medical Marijuana Use?
Trying to guess when all of the states, located in the US, will approve medical marijuana is like trying to win the lottery.
States have to introduce the option and then find out how the public feels about it. In some states, the majority of people do not want to have medical cannabis legalized.
It still seems as though a large majority do not understand what CBD is and how it can be used to help those who are really suffering.
But we are here to spread the word and change this (so share this article with your friend on FB and Twitter)
The great news about CBD rich Hemp Oil:
CBD Hemp Oil is legal in all states!
No longer does a person have to search to find CBD that will help them!
What Happens to Children Who Need Medical Marijuana?
As far as “medical marijuana” goes the sad thing is that all states will not allow the use of medical marijuana on children.
These are the families that literally have to leave their homes and move to a state that will allow it.
It is not bad enough to have a sick child, but to know that there is something that can but they cannot get it. This is when parents and caregivers have to make the decision to uproot the family and then move to another state.
By moving, the child is able to get the cannabis and the family prays that it continues to work.
It is unfortunate that with all the research that has been conducted that many cannot get the treatment they need.
However as I said before:
if you are in need of high CBD and low THC treatment then medical marijuana is not the “only” way! You can use CBD rich hemp oil as it’s 100% legal and can be bought in stores and online.
Make sure you buy from a reputable store with guarantee as that shows they are selling legitimate CBD rich product.
What do you think is needed to help the states understand that people are living right next to them that need this medication?
It often makes people wonder if cannabis will ever lose the stigma that has been attached so many years ago.
Cannabis and CBD oil are being used to treat so many diseases and the list is growing daily.
Never before have so many studies proven the benefits of medical marijuana and Cannabidiol.
As more research is conducted, hopefully those in the federal government and medical fields will become educated on the positive aspects of medical marijuana and CBD.
As more states are readying to jump on the medical marijuana boat, the more people that will be helped in the long run.
Regardless of the legal bureaucracy the great thing is we now have the ability to treat our self with CBD rich products that have been proven to be beneficial over and over again.
