I have been lucky enough to get one of my dear friends Steve Alexander, a Vietnam Veteran, on an interview, talking about he is taking CBD oil for pain and how it is helping him lowering the pain from the horrible injury he got back in Vietnam.
If you want to watch the video of the interview just click here – it will take you to the bottom of this page.
Here’s the interview transcript (modified for better readability):
Matt: Hi, I am Matt and on today’s Cured By Nature Show we are talking about CBD oil for pain. How whole plant CBD or Cannabidiol (also called Full Spectrum CBD) can help with severe pain.
On today’s show, we got Steve Alexander. Now Steve has been in excruciating pain ever since he got blown up by a landmine back in Vietnam.
Luckily he found CBD and he has been taking CBD oil for pain for almost 2 years now. That has helped him to be almost without pain for about a year now. And with that being said let’s jump right into the interview.
Hello, Steve, I’m very happy to have you as one of the testimonials and success stories of CBD oil for pain here on the Cured By Nature Show.
As I understand cannabidiol or CBD as we call it has changed your life.
Now I want to start at the beginning and ask what the diagnosis was. Like, let’s start with the diagnosis and then we’ll break it down okay?
Steve: Okay. Initially, when I was 19 I was injured in a landmine incident and I laterally dislocated vertebrae zelf three, four and five and broke the transfer processes off of those vertebrates. When they did the operation to try to straighten everything out they messed up the sciatic nerve that goes down my leg.
From then until April of 2016 I was taking high amounts of opiates, opioid medicines like hydromorphone. A generic name is “dilaudid”. Muscle relaxers, nerve pills for my nerves and everything else and I started taking the CBD oil for pain basically on a lark.
I heard about CBD. Okay well, nothing can, really cure anyone and at that time I could barely walk a thousand step a day. In fact when I did do a thousand steps a day that was considered a Goldstar day.
And since I starting to get CBD oil for pain I no longer take any of my pain medicines. I walk 4 – 5 miles a day now and this is the most pain-free I’ve been since prior to my injury.
Matt: So if that was when you were 19 and as I remember you were telling me before that, that was in Vietnam right? So, so you’re a war veteran, right?
Steve: That’s correct yeah.
Matt: So when you were 19 what year was that?
Steve: That was 1967.
Matt: So in 1967, an incident with the landmine caused you to get injured and then you were transported back home. Did you get medical care there or were you sort of patched up and then transported back home?
Steve: Initially I was paralyzed. So they told me that there wasn’t anything they could do for me there and it would take longer for me to recuperate then they had the time for so they rotated me back to the States.
And I was injured on the 21st of November 1967 and right back in San Diego at the Naval Hospital on the 17th of December. And I stayed in that hospital until May of 1968 at which time I was released and told that all I had to do was just tough it out and I would be able to be back to normal in a short period of time.
Matt: Okay so how long before the paralyzation went away?
Steve: It was, about three months, three and a half months before I could actually walk without the aid of somebody holding on to me or my nightstand that they have now in hospitals.
And then they were moving people through the hospital and kicking out of there as fast as they could. Obviously, they had an insurmountable number of patients and a limited amount of beds. So initially they told me that, that I would just get better if I just went out and started living again.
And at that time I couldn’t even drive a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle. My legs didn’t work well enough to operate the clutch and brakes and I guess I should add this in – part of the problem with my diagnosis with the military – I had polio when I was two years old. And I have a foot that’s three sizes shorter than the other one and that leg is eleven-sixteenths of an inch shorter. And the Navy said being on the truck and having your back messed up like that didn’t really hurt you. You were like this before you came into service.
And so I was initially discharged. I got out of the service in February of 1969 and I went to the VA, started going to the VA in probably September or October of that year and they started giving me so much pain medicine that they actually got me addicted to pain pills.
And so you know when you’re floating around in society full of pain pills, you can overcome certain things, when you’re that messed up. And so then in 1971 I went in for my first back operation and they messed up the sciatic nerve that runs down my leg.
So in addition to my, my excruciating back pains, my leg pains increased and they told me that there wasn’t anything they could do about it. Because I had polio they weren’t going to help me. They did though give me pain medicine.
So from that time on and off for the first 10 to 15 years, I would take periods where I would try to get away from the pills because they had me so strung out on them. First time I went to withdrawals I decided that was insane. So I started being more reasonable with my medicine.
And I was been given like morphine and just various types of pain pills in that class.
Then in 2000, they said that I had to have another back operation. And what they wanted to do was an operation basically was going to be 16 hours long where they were going to go in and clean all “the arthritis” out of the lumbar section of my spine, straighten my spine back up and then put steel rods on each side of it.
Well, when they got started with the operation and got inside, they found out my back was messed up even worse than what their cat scans and MRI showed. So they just cleaned it up a little bit and told me “okay well maybe you do have a problem”.
And three years after that I lost control of my bowel because the way that the vertebrates were misaligned and what they did with the first operation is put pressure on the nerves that go through the lumbar section and those nerves grew together. So they don’t hang free like they do for a normal back. And then, in 2003 when I lost control of my bowels it was because of the pressure that was on those nerves.
That section in there that’s injured is the part that controls your bowel, bladder, sexual functions and things of that nature.
So they did another operation and then they wanted me to go in and have an even more intensive one and I asked them what my percentage, my chances of improvement would be?
And they said that there’s almost a 90% chance you’ll end up being a paraplegic.
Okay. Well, I didn’t want that so they had me on Hydromorphone (1, Gabapentin, Cymbalta. I can’t remember the other medicine.
Then in 2006, I went to another doctor outside of the VA and he said that I was a candidate for having a centrifical pain pump installed. (1). It is set in a muscular pocket in my abdomen and a tube runs from that pump around and it goes in my back at about T11. And they explained it’s like an epidural (2) that a woman has when she gives birth where they go in and deaden the nerves.
So this thing dribbles this huge amount of pain medicine right on my spinal cord and the ratio at whatever it’s dripping in there… I would have to take orally 300 times that in order to get the same result. And this pump was turned up to the maximum.
They were coming to a point where they didn’t know what they could do to give me any more relief.
I was taking a 32 milligrams of Hydromorphone a day, 3200 milligrams of gabapentin a day for nerves and 120 milligrams a day at Cymbalta. And that was kind of for muscles and I guess some people do use a little bit for mood swings.
But my wife Mary Kay and I, how you say, got our heads together and try to figure out what was going to happen because I was getting worse and I was getting to a point where I was using a walker and a wheelchair dependent on the day.
We’d read they passed the medical marijuana law in the state that we lived in. We started reading some of this hype that was coming out and they were talking about cannabidiol (CBD) being so good for people. And it was like okay, well, we didn’t really understand what it was. But I got my medical marijuana license and our permit whatever they call it and I went down to a local distributor and got some CBD oil for pain. But it was too high in THC. It was like 85 milligrams of THC and 35 milligrams of CBD.
Well after taking a little bit I didn’t like the getting “stoned” part. But I noticed that there was some improvement over my pain level. And I started well I’d hate to say research because it wasn’t anywhere near that sophisticated. So I started reading online about CBD oil for pain and the difference with it being made with marijuana or with hemp and I decided that I wanted to try it. But I wanted to do it with hemp and just quite by a luck, a lucky draw…
Matt: Devine intervention (3)?
Steve: Yeah, Devine intervention. That’s a good word if I may use that.
I found this website CuredByNature and thought “hmm do I really want to send this much money to them? I don’t even know them.” And so I wrote a letter asking a little bit more about the product and then I decided well a leap of faith is probably needed here and I ordered my first CBD oil.
I have also been taken CBD chocolate. I take chocolate squares that have 40 milligrams of CBD per piece. And I take probably four of those a day.
I don’t take any more of my hydromorphone – my pain medicine is completely stopped. I’m still taking 1,800 milligrams of Gabapentin or Neurontin for the nerve pain. But that can’t be helped because of the pressure on the nerves. But I walk 4 to 5 miles a day now. In fact,t I did a four and a half mile walk already today and well…
Matt: You know, you’re a walking proof that CBD oil extracted from HAMP really, really works.
Because it’s super high in CBD. Some strains that are super high in CBD and very, very low in THC. And that’s why you don’t get high. Even though it’s a whole plant extract so there are all the other cannabinoids (4) just the same as in any kind of marijuana plant or medical marijuana as they call it. But there’s high amounts of CBD and very low amounts of THC, like just traces.
And yeah, that’s what’s kicking in.
And that’s what impressed me and my wife Ally when we started this journey that, there was a lot of talk about cannabis extracts, medical marijuana, marijuana extracts, marijuana oil, cannabis oil, all those words, how those you know, cure cancer. But it also cures a lot of other things.
And then we started the research. There was already some talk about CBD out there. So we did further research and we felt that maybe THC route is not the way. Let’s try the CBD route. Because I guess not that many people want to be stoned all the time.
So there’s got to be a way to get the cannabinoids that are in the ratios that are good enough for the body to heal itself but not be super stoned to the point that you’re sleeping 24 hours a day.
So that’s how this whole CBD journey started for us.
And you did mention CuredByNature which is our website and all, and I’d like to point out here that it’s not my intention in this success story to emphasize our website and point people to our website.
I want to say that there are other CBD companies and brands out there that also have CBD products that help people. However, you should first do a little bit of a background check. Just browse through their website and see if there are real people behind the brand or it’s just a pretty website.
CBD products really do help people with all kinds of health problems. So I would recommend anybody to try it.
I recommend that you start slow and buy a small dose which will not cost that much and you should just test it. If it works, it works you know, stick to that company. And if it doesn’t work, don’t give up! Because CBD does work. Maybe it’s not the combination that’s right for you. Maybe it’s the cannabis strain that they’re making the CBD oil from that’s not right for you. Maybe it’s the combination of other cannabinoids that’s not working for you. So I urge everybody not to give up just because they paid thirty or forty bucks for a 10-milliliter bottle to test and it had no effect on you.
Go with another brand, another manufacturer, another website. Try a few if you have to. It’s not going to cost much money and you will end up with a CBD product that will work for you. That’s just my recommendation.
Steve: Well along that line, if I may interrupt, I’ve talked to a number of my friends, in my working years, I’ve traveled all over the United States Canada and a lot of Mexico, and I know a lot of people in various places. I’ve talked to a lot of people about using CBD oil for pain and what it’s done for me and some of them have actually tried CBD but where very unhappy with the way that they’re treated – kinda “we have your money and your product will be there next week”. Well, it turned out to be three weeks later and that’s something I’ve never got from Cured by Nature. And that’s why I’m really sold on you guys.
Matt: Well thanks, thanks! We really try you know, we really try, even though sometimes it’s kind of impossible because you have a hundred emails to answer. And you can’t do it in one day because there’s other stuff. So sometimes it takes a day or two. And then also with the product sometimes we ship the same or the next business day but sometimes it takes a couple of days. But you know, even if customers come back to us with product lost or anything like that we make sure that they get the product even if we have to send it again.
Matt: And most of the products we do ship with DHL Express which makes it come in about three days. Plus DHL Express offers superb tracking options. You “see it” every step of the way.
But hey let me let me jump to another question here okay? So it was from your 19 years of age up until about two years ago that you were in horrible pain. You were on opiates almost all the time. And extreme doses of opiates I might add. And that didn’t help. That only made you not worse as far as the pain but it made you like a zombie or something?
Steve: Yes and that’s an interesting question to ask because I have friends that I’ve known for 30, 40 some of them 45 years and a lot of them in the last six month particularly when I call them they say “wow I haven’t heard you that clear forever”. Ah, they can tell just by the way that I talk and the sound of my voice, how much clearer I am.
I haven’t been this clear-headed and honestly, I haven’t been this pain-free since before November 1967. I haven’t been this clear-headed since I don’t know when. I’m actually finding that I’m having time for life now. I was not aware that my pain level was so bad that all, all of my energy went into functioning. And I didn’t have time for relationships or for trivial stuff. For just going for a walk or anything else like that. I was just so focused on my body, that surprises me. I really don’t know how I did that.
Matt: Yeah, the pain does drain your energy so there’s just no energy left for anything else.
Well, I don’t know if you wanna put this in or not? But I have actually told two doctors how much this is helping me, and they told me that was in my head.
Matt: Ah okay. So what they’re saying, what they’re claiming is that it’s a…
Steve: Uh-huh yeah.
But the funny thing is if you take something else as a placebo, or before that you took, you know, THC rich cannabis extract, well that didn’t do as well as this does and…
Matt: Did they tell you that you were feeling stoned from that it was a placebo as well?
Steve: No,… in 2006 I started going to a pain clinic. It’s all they do is handled people with chronic pain like myself. And the doctor told me about a year and a half ago, he said if most people took the amount of pain medicine that I took it would kill them.
Matt: Yeah, I can imagine.
Steve: He said that he himself had a hard time believing that I functioned the way that I did on the amount of medicine that I get.
If you look at me straight from the back,… your spine is supposed to, the vertebrates are supposed to be stacked on top of each other. Well, vertebrae L4 is going like this. And then if you turn me around to the side, now L4 is twisted out, L3 is going forward and L2 is slid back okay.
So those nerves go through a “Z” channel and the arthritis is eating all of my discs. I don’t have any discs anymore from my tailbone all the way up to a, well the L1 is a solid bone. And that arthritis grows and it grows inside where the disc used to be. And so then it gets into that canal that your nerves go down and it puts pressure on those nerves.
Steve: In addition to just being messed up I got… looking Lego or Tinkertoy set going down through my back.
Matt: And your pump with your medicine, if I remember correctly from our previous conversations, today after taking CBD oil for pain for 2 years, that pump was turned down for about 90% now isn’t that correct?
Steve: It’s actually 80%
Matt: It’s 80%.
Steve: It’s been turned down 80% in the last six months.
Matt: So you’ve been taking CBD oil for pain and you have sort of stack the CBD a little bit in your body so that your body got better and better. And then after like maybe half a year of taking the CBD oil for pain obviously you consulted your doctor and you guys decided that maybe it’s time to turn that pump with painkillers down a little bit?
Steve: Yes. You see the pain clinics have come up with this novel idea that if a person takes so much pain medicine for so long and then their pain just starts to keep getting worse anyway, that if you stop taking some of that medicine it actually improves you. At least it kind of shocks your system and you get a little improvement out of it.
And so they tried that initially just about the time that I started getting the CBD oil for my pain. And because I’ve taken so much heavy-duty medicine over the course of my life I really regulate it and I’m on top of when I take it.
So in the case of the CBD oil for pain for me, I get like, as I said earlier, 40 milligrams of CBD chocolate squares. I split those in two and then I take half a piece of the CBD chocolate maybe every four hours instead of a whole piece every five hours.
So by doing that, that it’s in my system and it’s something that I don’t think most people pay that much attention.
It’s like I have a friend that’s taken CBD oil for pain and it’s like “oh yeah, oh I’m really hurting I better go take some”. Well no! I don’t do that because once the pain level gets to a certain point and then you have to take, I don’t care if it’s medicine or CBD, that has to not only get into your system but it has to overcome that extra jolt of pain.
So if you keep a nice smooth level in there, it works much better and you really don’t have to take as much as you normally would. In fact, in the month of November, my pump was turned down 25 percent. Prior to taking CBD oil for pain, I had to go in every seven weeks for pump maintenance. And what that is, is they draw out what little bit of medicine left in it and then they fill it with a new medicine.
And so I was doing that every seven weeks from September 2006 up until last spring. And I just went in,… actually, it was the last week in November, I went in and had my pump maintenance done. It’s turned down so far that I don’t even have to go back for a few months for my pump maintenance until the 1st of April.
Matt: Mm-hmm, that sounds fantastic! And to tell you the truth you know, I’m I was even kind of shocked when you told me about the pump the first time because truthfully I mean, you know, we’ve heard about all sorts of opiates and super strong painkillers that will even make you become a drug addict. Or make it almost impossible to get off of those opiates.
But I’ve never, ever heard of something as a pump that’s inside your body that has a tube to one of your you know, just to a certain position in your spine and it pumps painkillers and relaxers and all sorts of medication directly into your spine nervous system.
I mean that sounded something like from a science fiction. And I can I guess not many people even know about something like this. I never knew that something like this even existed. So that something interesting that our readers are going to appreciate.
And if a Full Spectrum CBD oil can help this much for something this severe that needs this kinda pain relief procedure or pain relief option as a pump inserted in your body with fluids being pump directly into your spine. And taking CBD oil for pain can help beat that. I mean I’m amazed about CBD oil, about all this whole cannabinoid aspect, the whole cannabidiol working in that many places and for that many health issues.
It amazes me every time. And this story or yours it’s, it’s absolutely mind-blowing, I tell you. And correct me if I’m wrong but I think you mentioned the other day that you talk to your doctor about you may be actually getting that pump removed right?
Steve: Yes, yes! He told me that, that he has not had anybody that that’s been so proactive about getting their pump out as I have. He said that I’m going about it the right way in the step down from it.
Add the cutting of the oral medicines and knowing that I can be okay with each step. Because initially, when they turn it down even 5%, there would be like a week or a week and a half that I would really notice it and I would be hurting a lot.
And then this last time it was turned down 15% on the first part of November. I went up to, with my wife who also has the same pain pump in her. I went up with her and they turned it down 15%, then they turned it down 10% at last week in November. And the first time they turned it down I had about four days where I was wondering if I did the right thing and then everything smoothed out and it’s great. And when they turned it down last time I didn’t even notice it.
Matt: Okay, okay, so when the first time they turned it down 15 percent you noticed it but the next time that they turned it down 10 percent more you didn’t even notice.
Matt: That’s awesome! I mean I’m amazed every time because the CBD and all the rest of the cannabinoids, THC is included of course. Because even in the Hemp oil extract there’s a certain amount of THC. Even if the levels are super small but you’re still getting the THC as well, along with CBD and the rest of the cannabinoids. You know although the ratio is much, much in favor of Cannabidiol (CBD), as I said before.
But it’s amazing how the cannabis plant, the extract from cannabis makes your body balanced. And even in these severe conditions like pain and all these painkillers and it’s balancing out so many things. It blows my mind.
Steve: That reminded me of something else. Eight years ago I had some really bad chest pain so my wife made me go to the hospital. And I had bilateral blood clots in both lungs so severe the doctor said if I hadn’t come in that I would have probably expired in about four or five more hours.
And so they put me on “Coumadin“ or “Warfarin” to keep help thin my blood out. And up until this year they’ve never been able to stabilize it. Just was going all over the place. And for the last three times that they’ve checked it, I only have to go in once a month for, to get it tested instead of every week. And, so my body is even starting to become, it’s like it’s mending.
Matt: It’s renewing itself you know.
Matt: Our bodies are indeed renewing themselves all the time. But obviously when we get older that happens slower and that happens less effectively so to speak.
Matt: But obviously cannabinoids help us sort of getting that speed from a young person, when the body is growing and therefore it’s really fast at renewing, it’s really fast at recuperating and that’s what CBD obviously does. Because every time I talk to our clients, our customers it’s the same story. Like it’s going better and better in every aspect of their life as far as health is concerned. So even other “small health problems” go away.
Steve: Yes and I’m a type 2 diabetic and my blood sugar level is to a point that they’re telling me that I probably don’t even need to be taking my medicine anymore.
I’m a little hesitant to just stop because of it’s been so long. But if I only have to take one pill a day for it that’s no big deal. But my whole body seems to be renewing itself. My mental state, my physical state is unbelievably different than what it’s been. Like I said I’ve never had time for life. And I have it now. I think that the medical field is really afraid of Hemp products.
Three months after I started getting CBD from you I was given a drug test at the VA when I went to see my doctor. And there was absolutely nothing in the drug test. They didn’t say “oh well you’ve been smoking pot”. Well no, there wasn’t anything there. They didn’t ask anything.
Matt: Okay aha, so you were tested for THC as well?
Steve: Yeah, right, yes.
Steve: Yeah, because of the medicine that they give me. I had to sign a thing saying that I would agree to random drug tests. Just to prove that I’m either not selling my medicine or I’m not abusing it. And I’m not as part of a “drug cocktail”. So they make sure of watching my system. So I’m tested for drugs.
Matt: Okay, I see. This is a very, very useful information because there’s a lot of people asking this out there. Not just asking us but there’s a whole debate online whether or not you can get quote-unquote “caught” at the drug test if you take Full Spectrum CBD oil.
Matt: And obviously no. I mean you would if you would take cannabis extract that is cannabis oil that is high on THC obviously…
Steve: Oh yes.
Matt: I mean obviously that would show up. But Full Spectrum CBD oil with only traces amount of THC it just seems to be enough to show up on a drug test.
Steve: And since I started getting CBD oil for pain from you guys I’ve always gotten the maximum. I started off with the 4000 milligrams CBD oil and the 400 milligram CBD chocolate which was 26.7 milligrams a square I believe it was. So I was even taking a relatively high dose.
Matt: So even your CBD intake went down because obviously, your body started working again at a higher pace.
Steve: I started treating the CBD oil for pain like I would any pain pill. And so I write down every time I take a pill or I take a piece of CBD chocolate. Ah, I don’t care what it is. It can be an aspirin. I have a spreadsheet on my phone and I write down what time and what I took. And that way it keeps me conscious of what I’m doing.
Because of one thing, age, your memory doesn’t work quite like it’s supposed to. But over my long history of being on so many different types of potent pain medicines, I found that it was really easy to take a pill and then 20 minutes or 30 minutes later, oh wow I’m still hurting, well let’s say you take another pill. Because that one hasn’t had time to catch up with you, right. Pretty soon you’re in some kind of a drug stupor and you can’t be like that. I didn’t want to be like that.
So my policy is to keep up what they call a “steady state” or to keep a certain level of CBD or the medicine in my system all the time. And that way I don’t have to take a big amount of it because I got out of sequence. Or I’m trying to catch up.
Matt: Right, right! Yeah, I think you’re going about this absolutely the best possible way. Also, I’d like to point out that your willingness to embrace life, your willingness to jump back on a horse so to speak, your willingness not to give up is absolutely helping you. And your willingness to go along with the medicine, with taking the CBD oil for pain,… but also to go along with walking, trying to do some sort of exercising to help your body get oxygenated, to help your body just move blood through faster. That of course only helps.
Steve: You know and the thing on getting in life, on getting back into life, as I’ve stated. I’ve worked and traveled a lot and I know people like for 30, 30, 40 years that I can pick up a phone and call them or they call me and we have a good conversation. But they’re not the kind of people that I would say “hey come on over and, and let’s do something”. Or go over to their house and help them build something or work on a project or something of that nature. I’ve never had friends like that.
And now for the first time in my life, I’m actually having friends that I can go,… I have a guy that I walk with. We walked five times a week. It’s like okay, we get up and we start walking at 8 o’clock in the morning. Just to be able to get up and go do that and look forward to it is awesome.
Matt: It is! I am so happy that CBD oil for pain is working for you. I really am. And what I wanted to say is, I wanted to point out that your willingness to help your body and to help this whole CBD healing process with exercising, with showing enthusiasm for life. This helps tremendously!
I have an uncle that has terrible pain. And we tried to give him some CBD oil for pain. So he takes a few drops and after a couple of minutes says “it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work for me”. But he wouldn’t get up from the couch and walk a mile a day, ever. So he’s waiting for something magical that’s gonna help him in five minutes but at the same time, he’s not willing to do anything to help the process. And that’s…
Steve: He wants to win that the national Powerball lottery so you can get fifty million dollars but without working for it. It’s the same thing.
Matt: It’s not just without working for it it’s even without buying a ticket man.
Steve: Yeah. You know my friend that I bought that couple packages of chocolate for?
Matt: I do.
Steve: Okay, I gave it to him and I called him a week later and I asked him if he’s been taking it? What did he think of it? He said: “the first time I took a piece of chocolate just knock me out and I slept really good but I wasn’t functional. And then the next time I took it didn’t do anything”. So about five days after that I called him and I said: “hey I’ll tell you what, I’ll buy your chocolate back from you if you don’t like it”. He said no, no, I didn’t say I didn’t like it my son’s coming over and we’re gonna eat some.
Matt: Okay, and you’re like “whatever”.
You know when you try to sort of help somebody and they’re not really looking for help even though they need it. But they don’t accept it. You can sort of only help somebody that actually asks for help.
Steve: He has cancer of the esophagus.
Matt: I remember, you told me.
Steve: Yeah, you’re right. I mean if somebody comes and asks that means that they’re at least interested. But if you go to them and say “hey look if you try this what do you got to lose?”
Steve: “You’re already miserable”
Matt: I know, I know. But you know I guess every time I try to initialize this “help somebody” process and it doesn’t come from them but from me. I don’t know, it just doesn’t work as well for whatever reason, yeah. I mean we sort of know the reason, right?
Steve: Oh yeah. Unfortunately, I’ve been in and around that for a long time. I’ve always had the enthusiasm, I’ve just never had the ability to live. That might be a strange thing to say but if you think about it, it’ll make sense.
Matt: I know, yeah. Well like I said we get emails, stories and, thanks and just praise from people that say “this actually works, it’s amazing, we love it” for whatever it may be.
They say “I didn’t think CBD oil would work for me. I’ve read about how it helps anxiety so maybe it can help me with my depression or some sort of anxiety, some sort of panic attacks”. And they come back and they say “Hey, I only took a few drops and the effect is amazing, I’m calm, I’m sleeping better, you know I don’t feel stressed out” and so on and so forth.
We had people with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), even cancer. And there’s a whole debate about, like I said before, how only THC rich cannabis oil helps with cancer, with all sorts of cancer, cancer disease.
But the fact of the matter is that Full Spectrum CBD oil is just as effective and maybe in some cases even more.
And in all fairness, maybe in some cases, THC rich cannabis oil or cannabis extract is better and works better. But that’s just something anyone needs to find out – what works better for them.
So you know it fascinates me every time when people write back and I and Ally say to each other: “Hey, did you read that email? Did you see,… I mean it helps them.” And we’re always like “But hey, we actually know that this helps right? Yeah, yeah but it’s so fascinating”. I mean we’re excited every time… “Did you see it, CBD works. It works, again it works again”. You know it’s amazing.
Steve: Yeah, it’s kind of like, like Christmas morning. You’re really doing something – you’re doing something worthwhile.
Matt: Well thanks, man. We really do want to help people. I think the people and the world is waking up and would love to be a part of this. And when we went on this journey with CBD we knew there’s going to be hurdles to jump over.
But if I can help one person… and I obviously did. Even if it would be just you. It’s amazing that you can actually help somebody in such a huge way.
Now I don’t have a magic wand,… I just went and point out to people “Hey the CBD oil, this medicine from cannabis really, really works!” And if people get benefit from it, it’s phenomenal. I mean I’m happy.
Steve: Yeah well I think, I really think that the big money people are afraid of it. Of Hemp
Matt: Of course. It’s gonna make a lot of people really, really better as far as health goes. And we’re talking about the body as well as the mind.
That probably takes a huge bite out of the whole pharmacy industry. And the whole doctor/patient, you know, involvement. And probably, you know, the big pharma is thinking about how they can, you know, sort of make their way and be on top of this as well as everything else. Because people are waking up. A lot of people are producing their own Hemp or, you know, marijuana or something in between. A lot of people are doing their own extracts.
And a lot of people are exchanging extracts with each other and just testing this stuff out whatever works for them. So there’s a lot of that going on and I salute that. That’s phenomenal! People are finally waking up. We’re finally awake, everybody’s waking up to a healthier life.
Steve: Yes! Can I say it’s about time!
Matt: Yeah, it’s about time
Steve: I mean when the Veterans Administration got me strung out on pain pills, when I was 21 years old, 20 years old. There was no reason for that. I mean there was seriously no reason for somebody to be in that kind of pain when there’s something like CBD oil for pain to help them.
If I would have been able to get to CBD oil for pain right from the start I don’t think I would ever need a pain pill. In fact, I know I wouldn’t.
Matt: Yeah, probably not.
So let’s just recap. So at 19 years of age back in 1967, an accident happened. The landmine in Vietnam threw you, you know,…
Steve: Well let me tell you about that. I was sitting on the top of a dump truck, on the plate that goes over the cab. I was sitting on the top of that plate and the landmine went off. I was over the driver. And the landmine went off over on the passenger side under the dual. It blew me 15 feet off the top of that truck. And when it hit it would look like I was trying to touch my toes flying back. And when I hit the ground one of my canteens which was on my flak jacket,… I hit on that canteen first.
So that canteen was what pushed those vertebrae’s out of place and busted the transfer processes off. I was unconscious for two days and I woke up for about 15 minutes and blacked out again for another 36 hours. And they came and woke me up and a medical person set by my bed for the next 24 hours and every time I started to go to sleep they’d shake me and make me wake up. And I was paralyzed at that time.
So their whole take on the whole thing was because I had polio that didn’t do anything. And I mean even in my medical records it states that there’s a lateral displacement of those three vertebrates. Well, that put a lot of pressure on those nerves in there. And that’s a lot of pain. And as I said before my left legs 11/16 inch shorter than my right leg but I didn’t know that. I mean I grew up that way.
And so after the injury that offset between the leg links helped aggravate the pain in my back. And it wasn’t up until 2000,… 2002 was the first time that I ever had a hill lift put on my shoe to make both legs the same length. And it helped a little bit but my back had already been fused from the Arthritis.
It was just another thing in the whole puzzle that made the pain even worse. I look at pictures of myself now taken back as I was… through my adult life and you could actually see that if you looked at me and I was standing there I was leaned over. There was a curve in my, my body. And so the displacement to the vertebrae and the mess of that operation up, that all came together. And it was a really hideous thing to have to live with.
Matt: I can’t even imagine, I can tell you that.
Steve: Well you know Mary Kay and I we’ve been married for 13 years we’ve been together for 14 and she says she can’t even believe the difference in me. And just the way that I move, the way that I talk, the way that I think. She said that it’s absolutely,… if you could say more than 180 degrees out from what I was when we met. So even my wife says that.
Matt: Hey, one question. Now you’ve mentioned that you’ve gotten that higher THC, lower CBD cannabis oil before and it got you, you know, high and you’ve noticed that obviously, it’s doing something for you. But you wanted higher CBD instead of higher THC so we wouldn’t get stoned. And once, once you started with taking CBD oil for pain,… how long did it take for it to kick in so to speak for you to notice you know that there’s something going on to the better?
Steve: Well you know, wow that’s a good question.
I would venture a guess of about 4 – 6 weeks before it was a definite “YES” and “This is something I’m going to keep working on”.
And then by the full second month, it was like “there’s no way I’m not going to do this”. It was that it made that much of your change.
And because of my mindset,… I’ve lived like this for so long I don’t know any other way to live. So the changes might have been happening a little bit faster than my mind was accepting it. But definitely by the second month, I know for a fact that it was “Hey we’re going for this”
Like I said earlier, I’ve never had time for emotions so to speak. I’ve never had time to “baby myself“ or to because it felt weird, I was too screwed. I was too focused on trying to get by. You know and when I was working, I was a pilot did you know.
Steve: But when I was working, I actually was refused job because the way that I looked with my body all twisted out of shape and my attitude because I didn’t smile and joke a lot.
I had jobs where I got hired and then when they found out that I had back problems,… because sometimes back then if I was sitting down and I stood up to start walking someplace, it would take me a good 30 to 40 steps before I could get myself in a fully upright position.
I would be bent over the hip. I would lose jobs over that. So that’s just to give you an idea how serious my back situation really was
Matt: Oh yeah, yeah, I understand, like it’s influencing lots of other aspects of your life that one wouldn’t even think of.
